How we build each edition

Official sources only

Every rate and rule is sourced from official government publications — DWP, HMRC, SSA, USDA or equivalent.

Plain-English explanations

We translate official language into clear, jargon-free guides that anyone can read and act on.

Dates and source links

Every page shows the date it was last checked and links directly to the official source so you can verify for yourself.

Free tools

Interactive calculators and eligibility checkers run entirely in your browser — we never store or transmit personal data.

Common questions

Which countries does Benefits Guidance cover?

We currently have a live edition for the United Kingdom and the United States. Editions for Ireland, Canada and Australia are in development and will launch when we can verify all rates and rules against official sources.

Do benefit rules differ between countries?

Yes. Each country has its own welfare system, eligibility rules, payment rates and application processes. The UK system is administered by DWP and HMRC; the US system by SSA, USDA and HHS. Our site builds a completely separate edition for each country so that every figure, guide and tool is accurate for that country.

How do I switch between countries?

Use the country switcher in the top bar on any page. Click the button showing your current country, then select a different one. Your choice is saved in your browser so we remember it next time. You can also use this page to navigate directly to any country edition.

Are your benefit figures official?

We source every figure from official government publications — DWP and HMRC for the UK, SSA and USDA for the US. Each page shows the date it was last checked and links to the official source. We are not a government website and you should always confirm with the official agency before applying.

When will the other country editions launch?

We do not have confirmed launch dates for Ireland, Canada or Australia. We will only launch an edition once we have verified all the key rates and rules against official sources. Sign up for updates on the relevant country page.
